Welcome to The Greener Bean! My name is Gillian and I am a newbie runner with a major iced coffee addiction.
I am a newlywed living in Spanish Harlem and work full time in arts management. My relationship with running started back on the Middle School Cross Country Team where I often finished last (and usually crying!). Despite these traumatic memories I survived, the habit stuck, and I have been an on-and-off walk/runner/yogi ever since.
Last year my husband was going through some health stuff and we realized we needed to make a lifestyle change and find a way to squeeze exercise into our insanely busy work/school/NYC lives. We started following the Couch to 5K program and forcing ourselves to get up early to run before work. Fast forward a year later and we can confidently run 3+ miles and our early morning runs have become the best part of the day 🙂
As I mentioned above, I am probably the world’s #1 Iced Coffee Fanatic and finish every single run with a reward: a big, frosty iced coffee (usually from our neighborhood Dunkins — I’m not picky!)
I started this blog as a way to document our journey with running, our adventures living in NYC, and my love affair with coffee. We are also big foodies and love to travel, so expect some of that on here as well!
We may not be very fast and we may not go very far — but we are loving this runner’s high!
